Tips & Techniques-Healthy Snacks

Make Healthy Snacks Fun

This is an excerpt from a class on healthy snacks that is part of a program called “Get Cooking 1”.  The class covers several aspects of snack preparation.  We make healthy snacks fun.  Key tips and concepts are included here to help healthy kids cooking.

Snack tips

Write a grocery list, make sure to include fruit, vegetables, nuts, whole grains, and dairy products you like to eat.  Let your child prepare some snacks for a few days.  Help them make dips and cut up vegetables and fruit.  When they come home, they can eat those healthy snacks kids love.

If the kids will be out after school playing sports or other activity, have them bring a snack so they won't be tempted to eat something unhealthy. Try to plan snacks to get the recommended number of servings in each food group; grains, fruits, vegetables, protein, and dairy.
