It's Greek
By the end of the week, participants will have covered basic food preparation, recipe reading, cooking, and cleanup. Each day includes lesson handouts and recipes for future reference.
The course is divided into five 3-hour courses, described below, offered over one week as part of summer camp program.
- Kitchen Safety– Knife Skills
Students learn about typical knifes used in the kitchen, with a particular focus on paring and chef knifes. Students learn how to safely handle knifes to slice and dice produce and other ingredients. Menu includes Greek-style pasta (pastistio) with a Greek village salad.
- What's in the Oven?
Students review baking vs. roasting, and discuss dishes that can be cooked in the oven. Students prepare chicken and roasted potatoes and start beans for day 3.
- Dry Beans
Participants will learn the health and nutrition benefits of dry beans and prepare a traditional chickpea dish.
- Fire up the Grill
Participants learn how to start a barbecue, and will prepare grilled lamb menu.
- Family Buffet - Celebration
Students celebrate the completion of class and prepare a traditional Greek-style buffet menu.
