This fun, hands-on course teaches children and teens to prepare very simple recipes with limited kitchen knowledge. Each one-hour class includes hands-on food preparation and tasting session—which gets the participants in the kitchen without the extra expense of the more formalized lesson plans. Each class includes recipe, shopping list, tool list and setup.

Quick Start

A kitchen is required. Simply provide a sink and tables or a common work area to accommodate the number of students expected. Because of the nature of some organizations; each class is prepared as a stand-alone session.

The course is divided into six classes, described below. These classes are optimized for delivery as one-hour sessions taught one time per week for six weeks as part of an after-school program.

  1. Salad Bar

    Students learn to prepare basic lettuces and raw vegetables to make an assortment of salads along with basic dressings.

  2. Waffles and Berries

    Students learn to prepare healthy waffles from scratch served with a berry sauce.

  3. Baked Penne

    Students learn to prepare a basic baked pasta dish from scratch.

  4. Pressed Sandwiches

    Students learn will prepare an assortment of sandwiches that will be heated and pressed.

  5. Hat on an egg

    This whimsical classic helps students learn to fry an egg in a slice of toast that has a hole cut out…the hole becomes the hat.

  6. Rice Torta Menu

    This class leverages leftover rice to prepare an Italian classic dish accompanied by a salad.
